This entry is part 4 of 7 in the series Biblical Scrolls

In Genesis chapter three we talked about the enmity that is between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. And to clarify these statements, we need to inform you the seed of the woman is Christ, and the seed of the serpent is the Antichrist or the one who opposes Christ.

This picture in Genesis 3:14-15 is a revelation of the rebellious attitude of Lucifer, and not only Lucifer, but it is also a display of the reality of who Jesus is, the true king who will one day return to sit on his throne over the world.

As we look at John preaching to his people in his day and looking back at this enmity that is between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. We can see what we are to be preparing for as Christians. We are to be preparing for a day when Jesus will appear to fulfil his promise to destroy the kingdom of the antichrist or the opposer of Christ.

Understanding the Message of Genesis

But for us to understand what this message regarding the return of Jesus is, and what that day will be like for the world. We need to understand, the Greek word Christ means king, demonstrating that the early Greek Christians saw Jesus as the legitimate king to come, and when they use the term Antichrist for his enemy, they were making the statement this rival to Jesus was an illegitimate king.

The Antichrist is and will be a man trying to lay claim to the throne of God as a legitimate king. However, in the future to come he will lay hold of the throne through deception and violence. But as he makes himself comfortable on the throne of God, Jesus will appear and, on that day, will remove him from his place and he will be destroyed.

Speaking with the leaders of his day, men who were indeed placed in a position of power, men entrusted with the authority and seat of Christ. John warned them about what they had done, abusing the seat of power entrusted to them. For as these men were in power, they were using the seat of Christ and power to rob and mislead the people of God.

John warned then as he looked back at the enmity that is between the seed of the serpent these men were in league with, and the seed of the woman who they were opposing by siding with the seed of the serpent.

Matthew 3:7, “When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?” “Who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come,” John asked these men.

A Picture of the Day of Christ’s Return

This wrath John spoke of is the wrath that will appear with the return of Jesus Christ, and the thing we need to be saved from should we live to see that day. And to bring this message home, Jesus said this to the people mourning his death as he was being led to the cross.

Luke 23:28-31, “Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me but weep for yourselves, and for your children. For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the Paps which never gave suck. Then shall they begin to say to the mountains fall on us; and to the hills, cover us. For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?  Bible Gateway

The reality we have in scripture are these, Jesus will return, he will judge the world, and the judgment is the destruction of the kingdom of the Antichrist. This is the day we need to be ready for and how we prepare ourselves depends on what we believe and know when it comes to the return of Jesus Christ.

Christians waiting for the Rapture

For most Christians, we are waiting for the return of Jesus Christ in the form of a rapture, but from what we saw took place in the green that is pointing to what will happen in the dry, we see Jesus coming to judge the world on account of their rejection of his kingship and for supporting the seed of the serpent.

Adam and Eve were in the green when they were judged and were cast out of the garden, or the presence of God. They heard the Lord in the garden and became afraid, ran, and hid among the trees of the garden. But the earth has since then changed, and we have now cut down most of the world’s forests. We are now the people in the dry who shall run to the mountains if we fail to take God at his word.

The words of Jesus, “Weep not for me but weep for yourselves, and for your children. The great enmity
