The Ungodly Counsel {4}

This entry is part 7 of 5 in the series Psalm two

“Let us break their bonds asunder and cast away their cords from us.” The nations plot in rebellion against God, and the kingdom of God to come. They are confident their plans will succeed against God the king. But knowing they will fail, God sent his word into the earth, his king and son that he might become the salvation of the nations and his people.

The nations are not without the knowledge of God, they are fully aware they are in direct rebellion against God and his Son Jesus. And seeing that he came to establish his kingdom and a people. The nation’s plot against the son of God, and upon seeing the son thought it wise to destroy him.

As soon as he was born, the kings of the earth were on his shoulders. They persecuted him, and when the time appointed had come. They nailed Him to the cross. However, it was God’s plan that his son should perish in this way. It was God’s plan for his son that with his life he should pay the penalty for human sin. And paying the penalty for human sin, the nations now have a way of repentance and a way back into the courts of their God and king.

But although God has provided this opportunity for the nations to surrender to his son. The nations are yet in rebellion, and on account of their rebellion began to plot a vain military campaign against the throne of God and his people.

God saw this, and said, “I will laugh at their vain attempt” It is vain because the kingdoms of the world are God’s kingdom, and the breath of life and of man is in the hand of God. Therefore, it is a vain thing to plot and war against God the king. Because to plot against the king of creation is to plot against our own lives. And becoming aware of these things, the blessed man began to prepare for the season of judgment that is to come from God against the nations.

In the law it is written, “He that sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision, contempt. Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath and vex them in His sore displeasure:” And discovering God was being gracious to the world, the blessed man leaped into action because of the day he sees coming.

The counsel of the ungodly, although he was made aware of these things, was to continue in his rebellion. His plans are to scorn the word and law of God, and sitting in the seat of rebellion was taken away like chaff in the wind.
