God’s Counsel{3}

This entry is part 3 of 14 in the series Psalm one

1 John 2:17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” And now that we understand we can have the desires of our hearts that are in line with the will of God, a desire that is contrary to what the world is pursuing, it is now important we address the reality concerning the law of God in Psalm one we see the blessed man meditating on.

And as we do, what we need to understand is that the law of God in Psalm one is not speaking regarding the moral law of God, although, it is clear we must do all we can despite the temptations in the world to avoid the counsel of the ungodly.

But when it comes to the law revealed in Psalm one, it is instead speaking regarding God’s instruction to his people because of the fixed intentions of the world to establish a kingdom in opposition to the coming kingdom of Jesus Christ. And because of the temptations in the world, it is good for us to understand these are not moral laws for us to find salvation, instead, they are God’s instruction for us to escape what he is about to do against the rebelling kingdom of the seed of the serpent.

Psalms 25:14 reads, “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant.” And seeing that our hearts are set on obeying his voice, God is sharing with us his plans to overthrow and destroy the kingdom of the seed of the serpent. And so, as we focus on Psalm one and verse one, it is important we ask this question, “Why was the righteous considered blessed?” And asking that question, I know it is easy for us to draw the conclusion; “He was blessed because he avoided the counsel of the ungodly,”

However, reading this about the blessed man, at first we thought the message was dealing with the moral law of God; but that was until we came to understand God is sharing a secret we need to act on because of what he is about to do. And as we investigate the reason behind why the blessed man took the approach to avoid the counsel of the ungodly; in relation to the theme of the bible that speaks of God’s judgments.

It has become clear according to 1 John 2:16 and 17 that the blessed man is taking these steps to avoid the counsel of the ungodly because he has uncovered that God was at war with the counsel of the world and the kingdom of the Antichrist, and will on the appointed day destroy it.

Therefore, I wanted to know what the counsel of the ungodly was. And after much praying and spending time in the word of God, it was easy for me to understand why the blessed man avoided the counsel of the ungodly.  It was because of what he had uncovered in the law of God.

Genesis 3:15 reads, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” And in relationship to Pslam one, we can see clearly that the attitude of the ungodly is to openly reject the counsel of God which was God’s warning that he is about to destroy the world and its plans to establish a kingdom in rebellion against the rule of his son Jesus Christ.

The attitude of the ungodly upon receiving God’s grace and revelation was to scorn, reject, and continue to rebel against God. But unlike the ungodly, the blessed man is rejecting the attitude of the ungodly so that he might walk after the law of God.

Psalms 1:1 reads, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” Which is the attitude of the ungodly to sit in the seat of the scornful. And sitting in the seat of the scornful, and determined on standing among sinners, we can see why the ungodly was described to be like chaff in the wind.

It was clear, God wanted his people to understand what he was about to do, and if we fear God knowing he is the only salvation we have, we will seek him, and in seeking God he will reveal His heart to us. Psalms 25:14 reads, “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant.”

And because the blessed man feared the Lord, he meditated on the law of God day and night, and doing so discovered God’s plan to destroy the lust of the world along with its desires, and seeing that there was a day appointed, he began to prepare himself for the season of God’s wrath revealed.

Like Noah, the blessed man is taking some form of responsibility when it comes to the revealed word of God because we can see him in Pslam one acting upon God’s revelation of a coming judgment. God had made up his mind to destroy the kingdom of the Antichrist, and the government of the seed of the serpent.

Therefore, he placed a curse upon the kingdom of the Antichrist; so that it will not prosper. The plans of the enemy and those of the world will fail, they will eat dust all the days of their lives, every attempt of the enemy to establish his rebellious kingdom against God will crumble.

Therefore, Genesis 3:14 reads “And the LORD God said unto the serpent, ‘because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:’” And seeing that these things will meet on the appointed day, the blessed man out of fear knowing the Lord will prosper against his enemies obeyed the instruction of God and so prospered according to the blueprint of God’s escape plan.

“And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” Genesis 6:7-8. And happening upon the grace of God revealed, it is to be understood; the law of God is not dealing with morality because we are sinners from birth and by nature of the first Adam, but we are to understand it to be obedience to God’s instruction on how to prepare and escape what he is about to do against the kingdom of the Antichrist.
