Caught by Surprise {9}

This entry is part 9 of 14 in the series Psalm one

Understanding why God was sharing what he was about to do in the future, and realizing what was ahead, the blessed man understood ignorance will not save him on the day of the Lord’s vengeance.

Therefore, reading the law of God, Psalms 5:5-8,The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hate all workers of iniquity. Thou shalt destroy them that speak foolishly: The LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.” The righteous began to put things in place that will help him survive the wrath of God.

And in agreement with the law revealed and the attitude of his ancient fathers who in past times survived the wrath of God against wicked men, he said in his heart, “I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.”

And because of this reality, the righteous man asked the Lord in his humility, “Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.” And recognizing he needed God’s direction to escape the coming judgment God was sending against his enemies, and those persecuting his soul for obeying God. The blessed man called out to God and receiving God’s word began to prepare for the wrath of God against his enemies.

In relation to this reality, and after paying the penalty for sins, Jesus said to his disciples and those believing in his mercy, Matthew 28:18-19, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in the earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”

Because his purpose for coming was to warn and save the world from the wrath of God, and seeing that the world was still in rebellion, Jesus sent his disciples out on the mission to prepare those willing to hear his warning and message of salvation.

In the future to come, Jesus will be the King of all the earth as he was and is. And upon his second appearance, the hope of Jesus Christ is to find the world willing to accept his kingship; otherwise, he will call for wrath and vengeance against the nations according to the penalty resting against it.

And sending his disciples out with the message of the kingdom, and as we continue to look at Psalm one in relation to the rest of the bible, and chapters of the bible. It amazed me that as Christians we believe God will remove us from the earth as he pours out his wrath against his enemies.

And this we do as Christians without considering the things of the past on how God instead of removing his people from the earth was able to keep them safe in the face of his outpouring wrath. And that he will also avenge his saints upon his return.

Jesus in light of his expectation upon his return, and why he sent us out into the world to proclaim his coming kingdom, spoke to his disciples, Luke 18:2-8 “There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

And he would not for a while: but afterward, he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she wears me out.

And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cries day and night unto him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?”

Because reading Psalm one, we should have learned this truth, the truth that God is able to keep us, and will keep us in the face of judgment poured out against his enemies. And looking at the life of the blessed man, and the reason behind why the righteous man in Psalm one was considered to be blessed, and why the ungodly is said to be like chaff in the wind on the appointed day.

We should have taken notice that unlike the blessed man who took the time to prepare for the coming season, the ungodly man put no effort in preparing, representing those of us in the world who are rejecting the call to salvation upon hearing the gospel and are sitting idly by as we draw closer to the second appearance of Jesus Christ, and are unprepared for what is coming upon the earth, and are therefore failing to prepare for the coming day of wrath.

Instead of preparing, many of us like the ungodly man is determined to rage war against God. The mission and counsel of the ungodly as it is today; is to overthrow God, and determined to overthrow God, moved God to ask the nations over which the ungodly seed of the serpent ruled,

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?” Psalms 2:1. Because of failing to believe the word of God, and failing to prepare against the day of vengeance, the kings of the earth have made a pack against the saints of God not knowing their plot against the saints was and is a direct rebellion against God.

“The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” Psalms 2:2-3. The nations are failing to believe the message, and neither are they taking time to read or meditate on the law of God the king.

And because the ungodly took no time to read the law, he was ill-equipped and was uninformed because of his unbelief. Therefore, when the season and time came, and he heard the king was on his way to punish his enemies, he was caught by surprise and unprepared for the hour when the Lord laughed at them in his anger.

Caught by surprise, the ungodly paid the price and penalty for sins, Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” And because he refused the warning and gift of God, it was demanded that the ungodly pay the penalty for his rebellion.
