The Church in Thyatira

This entry is part 4 of 8 in the series The Seven Churches

Preparing the churches in Asia, and the rest of Asia for their role in the coming kingdom of God, and that they may inherit the promise of God to reign and rule with Him over the nations. John sends letters to each of the leaders he titled angels, that they may prepare the body of Christ for the mission of Christ’s kingdom, and that they may also prepare for the coming persecution by the hands of Rome.

And writing to the Churches, John under the leadership of Christ, and based on the vision he received began to address the issue of false doctrines, idolatry, and fornication within the body of Christ brought in my Jews, and Gentiles claiming to be Christians. And writing to the Church in Thyatira, John strongly addressed the growing dominating practice of fornication and idolatry within the Church brought in by men who had taken up positions of strong influence within the body of Christ.

These issues had to be dealt with, and moved with anger against his enemies, God warned the angel of Thyatira, the leader over his people to take a strong stand against these people, God called the group among this Church in Thyatira, Jezebel, and their doctrine the doctrine of Jezebel.

John wrote, Revelation 2:18-26 “And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who has his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; I know thy works and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.”

Jesus was presented as a man of war dressed and ready to strike through the rebellion of his enemies. “His eyes are like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass” The Son of God was presented as a Roman soldier dressed in armor about his legs made from brass with anger and rage in his eyes to avenge and rescue his people.

“Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee because thou suffer that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication, and she repented not.”

And being complacent, and allowing this doctrine to take a seat in the house of God and among his people, God said through John to the angel of the Church in Thyatira, and that he might spare his people the fear of judgment sent among the wicked among his people. “Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searched the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.”

The judgment God was prepared to send, was to allow the Church to face harsh persecution. God was going to allow Rome to persecute, and kill many among the body of his people until he will have cleansed his Church because the Church is to be prepared to stand with Christ over the nations. Christ has ransomed his people through his blood, and they were made kings and priests unto Christ’s God and Father.

“But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burdens. But that which ye have already hold fast till I come. And he that overcomes, and keep my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:”

This was God’s promise, and this was also the mission on which the Church was sent that they might prepare a kingdom for their God and Savior Jesus Christ. And Paul alongside John wrote to the churches in Galatians in reminding them that should they continue in the ways of rebellion, they will not enter God’s kingdom.

Galatians 5:19-21Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
