Now as John continued to reveal the message and testimony of Jesus Christ, John beholding Christ in his vision, saw Jesus as King sitting on his throne among his saints and sitting he was sitting as a judge of all the nations.
No one was found worthy to open the seals, but as he continued to behold what he saw, and continued to listen to the voice of God’s angel, it was revealed to him that Jesus the savior of the world, Jesus who had overcome the world was found worthy to sit and judge, that is open the seals of judgments.
At first, John was perplexed, because no one was found worthy to open the seals, this was suggesting salvation was lost and there was no way out from under the curse of God. But Jesus as becoming the son of man and God had overcome the world, he had pleased God, and pleasing God was found worthy to sit and judge the nations.
Revelation 5:1-5 “And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, who is worthy to open the book, and to loosen the seals thereof?
And no man in heaven, nor in the earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. And I wept much because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.”
At this point in the vision, John was perplexed because it was suggesting no one was found capable of saving mankind from the wrath and judgment of God, no one was found worthy to rule and judge, open teh seals, but as he continued to look into the vision and testimony of Jesus Christ one of the elders spoke:
“And one of the elders’ saith unto me, weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book, and to loosen the seven seals thereof.” And upon hearing these things, it was confirmed, “The secret of the Lord is with the righteous and he will show them his covenant. And being in the right place as God’s appointed, God revealed to Daniel as he did with John the future of his coming kingdom and the reward he has in store for his people.
Standing before King Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel answered in the presence of the king, Daniel 2:27-30, “The secret which the king has demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; But there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days.
Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these; As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that reveals secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightiest know the thoughts of thy heart.”
King Nebuchadnezzar’s thoughts and the secret of his heart was that he had built a lasting empire, and by building this empire, he would become a god among his people, and for generations, his kingdom will last forever.
After all, he had done, the king couldn’t see how his empire would pass away, because his empire was mighty, he had conquered kingdoms and destroyed them all. But as he ponders over these things, God answered him in a dream that troubled him. Therefore, he wanted to understand its meaning.
Therefore, God showed Daniel and later John the establishment of his coming empire and kingdom and how it will remove and destroy the empires that came before it. And this empire of Christ will be a lasting and eternal empire that shall not pass away. And this was to answer the thoughts of Nebuchadnezzar as he lay upon his bed.
Daniel explained to the king what he saw, Daniel 2:31-35 “Thou, O king, saw, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible.
This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, his legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. Thou saw until that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay and brake them to pieces.
Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.”
God was revealing to the King as he answered the thoughts of the king upon his bed concerning the empire he has built, and the message from God to the king was that his empire is not an everlasting empire, but that in the future God will establish an empire that shall destroy and remove the empires that rise upon the earth along with the residue of them all, and that they will be broken to pieces and like chaff, in the summer wind, they will be taken away.
The government and kingdom of Jesus Christ will become a great mountain on the earth, and God through his Son Jesus Christ will rule over all the earth. Isaiah 9:7 “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
And because of the zeal of the Lord, John wrote, Revelation 5:1-2 “And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne, that is Jesus Christ, a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, who is worthy to open the book and to loosen the seals thereof?” to which the elders proclaimed Jesus the Lamb of God.
