Thinking about the return of Jesus Christ, I often wonder what that day will be like, and based on what we see in the world today, I often wonder if we are the last generation before his return, or the generation that will see the return of Christ. And if we will be that generation, should we be considering the words of Jesus Christ on his way to death?

Because as he was being led away to his cross, to be hung after he was betrayed, and after he was dragged away in the night to be tried falsely, and then put to death without any righteous and fear representation, Jesus spoke these words to those mourning him.

Luke 23:28-31 But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck. Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us. For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

What happened in the green that shall take place in the last days and the dry spoken of by Jesus Christ? Going back to the days of Adam, and the history and fall of humanity, we can understand what the coming days of the Lord will be like for those unrepented hearts who have heard us preached the gospel and rejected it.

In the days of Old, and the days of the fall of humanity, the bible has painted a picture for us to know Jesus was speaking regarding the days of Adam. For in the day Adam ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and chose to rebel against God, he was appointed to death, he faced and saw God’s wrath. Adam saw the terror that is to come.

Genesis 3:8-9 “They heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.” They heard the voice of the Lord and was afraid and hid themselves in the green of the earth. And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou?” And what was their response:

Genesis 3:10-12 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, who told thee that thou were naked? Have thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, the woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.”

Then God spoke to the woman, Genesis 3:13 “What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, the serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.” Then the Lord said to the serpent, Genesis 3:15 “Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”

This is the picture of the judgment to come, and the terror the world will face upon the return of Jesus the King. Jesus is coming to establish his kingdom on earth, and when a kingdom replaces another, it is by war and the victories of war by which a king is glorified and is praised for his great conquest, and the conquest of Christ is to first proclaim his coming through his people, offer terms of surrender, which is the opportunity for repentance, and an offer, and place in his kingdom.

Those accepting his offer, will live with him in his eternal kingdom, but for those who will reject his offer and terms, choosing to stand against his authority will like Adam on the day of Christ hid themselves among the mountains saying, fall on us and hide us from him that sat on the throne.

Revelation 6:12-17 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casted her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Weep not for me said Jesus, but for yourselves and for your children, for the day of the Lord is coming. What will that day be like when the Lord shall show his face once again. At the cry of his people, the saints sent to proclaim his kingdom, and his greatness, this is what that day will be like for those who will have rejected him.

Psalm 18:6-9 In my distress I called upon the LORD and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also and came down: and darkness was under his feet.

Revelation 1:12-16 I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; and in the midst of the seven candlesticks, one like unto the son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they were burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

Revelation 19:11-16 And I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
